The Dixie Group Kennedy Frierson COO History In 1897, Cornelis Van den Brink and Johannes Campman started a carpet factory at Laren, in the centre of the Netherlands to manufacture rugs, made on handlooms in a flatwoven quality. As the company grew and mechanization took place, (electric) powerlooms were introduced in the first decade of the 20th century. Expansion took place after World War II, when the company switched over to Axminster looms. Unlike most competitors who chose broad- loom weaving, Van den Brink & Campman successfully concentra- ted on the production of rugs. In 1966, a new factory was built at Lichtenvoorde, close to the German border. In the early 90’s the compa- ny started production of carpets in the far east. In addition to dutch woven products the company now produces handtufted rugs from China and India, and handknotted rugs from Nepal. The Brink & Camp- man product range is more exten- sive than ever before. After three generations of owner- ship the families Van den Brink & Campman sold the company in the late 1990’s. With a new millennium came a new start. Sjouke Jan Zwarthoff, owner since 2001, decided to close the Laren office and move the whole company to Lichtenvoorde. New offices were built, a spectacular showroom was designed, young and ambitious people joined the company and the company’s name was simplified to Brink & Campman. At this moment Brink & Campman’s rugs and carpet solutions are sold to more than 50 countries.
